The Mycelium Forum – ”The Dark of the Night is the Color of Death” – With Rev. Matron Thorn

This is another installment of our ongoing series, The Mycelium Forum, where we engage in open-ended conversations with occultists, authors, and artists.

Today, I’m joined by Reverend Matron Thorn who is an artist, musician, author, ordained minister and filmmaker originally from Fort Lauderdale, Florida but now residing in Finland. His numerous bands and projects include Aevangelist, Materie Abyssu, and Benighted in Sodom. He’s now also a member of the Czech black metal band Inferno and author of mystical world-faring cyberpunk trilogy ”The Sainthood”.

We cover the following topics, among others:

  • Matron Thorn’s long journey from Florida to Finland
  • The malady of constant ”dayside consciousness” and consensus reality—human games and masquerade
  • The apocalyptic future and the movie “The Faculty”
  • The importance of black metal and the archetype of the Outlaw
  • The ”Crossroads” and the ”existential dark place” (the Nigredo, the dark night of the soul)—the wisdom of suffering
  • Dissolving dualistic thinking
  • Visionary art and artists as conduits for their daimon
  • The movie “Jacob’s Ladder”

Please note: This episode was recorded in a pub setting during my roadtrip to Tampere, hence the background ambience which was fortunately reduced in post production.

Episode length: 1 h 52 min
