The Tuonen Portti Manifesto

We now operate on a peculiar timeline, where the past begins to live again, and the present and future condense into a strange mass. For us, darkness and light are inseparable, in the Master’s words: ”We are the brightness of Intellect, the dawn, and the deepest night of Madness!”

We, Konstantin Tuonihovi and Carita Hännikäinen, have founded the occult-visionary artist collective Tuonen Portti. Our highest aim is to advance true art that makes no compromise on postmodernism’s terms, but rather Works against time, thereby serving as a gate from this decayed everyday life into more mythic worlds.

Visionary art moves at the margins of art, in liminal space. Mystical visions experienced and channeled in deepened consciousness are its most essential content. Those deeply personal experiences cannot be found in the rigid curricula of art schools, but in the deepest recesses of the human soul.

Artists like us have visited this world throughout human history, so models are not hard to find. Closest among them is the late journalist-artist Perttu Häkkinen, devoted to esotericism. The work he began inspires us, and we intend both to honor and to continue the legacy he left behind, in the field of both Finnish and border-crossing esoteric art.

Such is also Master C.G. Jung, whose Gnosis revives our soul after years of malnourishment. The lack of such Knowledge unites Us and You, the Outsiders among the herd-like masses.

Now that the ruling Goddess of Reason in the modern world has cast religions and the old Gods into her shadow, the true Meaning of life can be found only in the subconscious of the most sensitive individuals. Instead of scientistic starvation, one must acquire Gnosis, the seeking and sharing of which is the aim of our Initiation.

All in all, esotericism is experiencing a renaissance, for example through scholar Nina Kokkinen and her research team’s excellent books and powerfully curated exhibitions. They have raised up our country’s Golden Age Artists, who are close to us, the people of the Portti.

As we know, material life is a relinquishing. All this existence is inevitably washed away when Tuoni’s floodwaters at last strike against our faces. On the other hand, in the Depths, beyond all that is transient, is that which is eternal: Numinous continuity, a flow free of life’s chains, ultimate peace and bliss.

With the opening of the artist collective Tuonen Portti, there is at last a Tribe of visionary artists’ own, where you may remove your mask and cease living by the customs of the herd. We invite You to depict otherworldly phenomena in Tuonen Portti’s Fellowship. You, our kindred spirit, wearied by this soulless wasteland.
